Mimiyo Tomozawa
友沢ミミヨ
Manga Artist, Illustrator
During the 1990s, her manga series appeared in magazines like Garo, AX, TV Bros., and S&M Sniper.
Her works include Potato Digging (Seirindō), Mushroom Travel (Seirin Kogeisha), Introduction to Primitive Education: Mame Oyaji (Parolsha), and Mame Oyako (Nagasaki Publishing).
She strives to create things that evoke a daydream-like sensation, as she is interested in boundaryless time (worlds), where daylight suddenly turns into dusk. In her stories, people suddenly find themselves lost in a strange world, where common sense is transformed. The plump characters she draws are at odds and resolves at the same time.
She was responsible for all the illustrations for Haruki Murakami's Matatabi Abita Tama (Bungeishunju).
In 2001, he co-authored and published the children's picture book viens chez moi!!! with Glasexx through the Centre Pompidou.
She has also designed the covers of Jim O'Rourke's albums Eureka and Insignificance, as well as the signboard for the famous bookstore "TACO-ché" on Nakano Broadway in Tokyo.
In 2005, she participated in a group exhibition at Dinter fine art in New York.
In 2014, she participated in the "MANGARO" and "HETA-UMA" exhibitions led by Pakito Bolino in Marseille.
Since 2019, he has also been active as part of the art unit "TOROROEN" with his painter daughter, Kotao Tomozawa.
She is a recipient of the Abe Shinichi Award.
